Power of Perception

Perception (or worldview) is a very powerful aspect of life; it can be empowering and yet limiting at the same time. Ripple Dynamics specializes in coaching individuals to understand and appreciate the Power of Perception ™ as the primary force at work in both their personal and professional lives.

Perceptions create powerful mental filters that shape the way we view our world, the way we act, communicate, make decisions, solve problems, resolve conflicts, and many other aspects of our lives. In its simplest form, our perceptions are the mental model that we use to view and interact with our world - our worldview. This mental model:
  • explains the boundaries of our world to us,
  • helps us to predict our behavior in different circumstances, and
  • identifies the strengths we can use to be successful within those boundaries.
Our perceptions are a framework for understanding, thinking, valuing, and explaining the various aspects of our reality. These mental filters determine our strengths which, in turn, determine what actions will be taken. Our actions determine the results we experience.
Perception Quick Facts

The following quick facts provide a brief background on the concept of perception as used by Ripple Dynamics Inc.

  • Many factors affect our perceptions including personality type, upbringing, experiences, economic background, culture, values, religious beliefs, and stress.
  • Type is the fundamental component of perception. It is the basic driving force of our overall personality.
  • Personality type frames our needs, wants, basic behaviors, values, and interests. More than any other factor it is the primary filter for the environment around us, interpreting and reacting to the filtered information.
  • Perception is the process of filtering and deciding which information to notice, categorizing this informaiton, interpreting it within the framework of our existing knowledge, and being motivated to act on the information.
  • Filtering information from our environment creates the boundaries of our perceptions.
  • Interpreting this information helps us make sense of the information that our filters let in and place it in a context that is familiar to us.
  • Our perceptions establish the motivating rules and guidelines that drive our behaviors for success within these boundaries.
